Ieme van der Poel is Professor of French Literature at the University of Amsterdam. Her research area´s include 20th century French and Francophone Literature, Postcolonial Theory and French Intellectual History. Her latest book, Congo-Océan (1921-1934): un chemin colonial controversé has been published by L´Harmattan, Paris, in September 2006 (for more detailed information, see under monographs). She is currently working on a full-length monograph on Julia Kristeva and prepares (in collaboration with Ton Hoenselaars) an annotated edition of Prousts Recherche for the Dutch market (De Bezige Bij, 2007). In 2004 she was appointed Chevalier dans l´ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture. In 2005-2006 she was a fellow at NIAS, where she organised (in collaboration with prof. Elleke Boehmer, Royal Holloway, London) the international expert meeting "Transcolonialism: The future of Postcolonial Studies from a Comparative Perspective." (funded by NWO, Ambassade de France, ASCA).
